What's even better than a new forward-thinking Mercedes-Benz model? A vehicle that embraces new technologies from multiple automakers. For the third time (and by that we mean on the third vehicle) Mercedes- Benz is partnering with Tesla. So far, the two Daimler division members have collaborated on two impressive products: the Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-Cell and the Smart ForTwo Electric Drive. As you may know, both of these vehicles are EVs, and the third collaboration unit will be one as well.

This announcement comes on the heels of Tesla's announcement that it had already received $40 million worth of advanced sales for the upcoming Model X electric crossover model. In short, the demand for electric vehicles is so great that the company wants to join with German company Mercedes-Benz to build a model that can meet all of the excess demand. Tesla plans to supply the electric motor for this new vehicle, as well as its transmission, battery packs, inverter, and all the related software that goes with these packages. Unfortunately, no more exact news about the partnership is available at this time, but we have a feeling that most of the vehicle's design/styling will come from Mercedes-Benz. It might even take some concept from Mercedes-Benz's performance brand AMG's E-Cell electric car, which is currently in the works.
