Fashion Week is like all traditional holidays rolled into one for true fashion devotees, and this year, Mercedes-Benz decided to get in on the action. The German auto manufacturer is the primary sponsor for the 2012 Fall Fashion event, which takes place starting on February 9, 2012 in New York City. Why would the luxury auto manufacturer decide to sponsor such an event? The answer is simple: both the brand and the event center around creating new styles and iconic looks within their industries.
As part of the sponsorship, Mercedes-Benz has launched a new video featuring Dutch fashion model Lara Stone and the 2013 Mercedes-Benz 2013 SL-Class. The ad is certainly interesting; it features Stone unloading suitcases from the sporty car and then being slowly swept away by a tornado in Oz-like fashion. Autoblog calls the blog "a vid that only those attending Fashion Week could understand. Which is, probably, half the point."1 While we see the beauty in both the model and the car, we certainly have to agree! Though the advertisement appeals to our senses, we have to wonder why Stone leaves her beautiful Mercedes-Benz M-Class vehicle behind as she anticipates takeoff in the tornado. With speed like that, we would have liked to see her outrun the natural phenomenon!
The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week sponsorship will take place at the Lincoln Center and will also reach out to local businesses and support educational initiatives around NYC. It will feature some of the biggest names in fashion today- as well as beloved, iconic brands.
What do you think of the Mercedes-Benz sponsorship and advertisement? We'd love to hear from you.
