What Are The Trim Levels Of The EQS From Mercedes-Benz?
EQS 450+ With Rear-Wheel Drive
The base version of the 2023 Mercedes-EQ EQS SUV is the EQS 450+ with rear-wheel drive. With this luxury SUV, you’ll notice advanced features before you even step inside. For starters, the exterior features a sleek design that lends itself to an improved aerodynamic performance. It also offers digital LED headlights, heated side mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels, flush side-door handles, and a panoramic sunroof, among many others.
When browsing the electric SUV options, one of the most important factors is the performance specs. This SUV uses its all-electric powertrain to produce 355 horsepower along with 419 lb-ft of torque. The EQS 450+ has an Airmatic suspension system with adaptive dampers, which constantly adjusts itself based on road abnormalities. It also has a range of around 300 miles, meaning you won’t need to stop too often for charging.
However, when you do need to charge it while on the go, the EQS 450+ is equipped with direct current fast-charging capabilities. With this feature, you should be able to charge your battery from 10% up to 80% in around 30 minutes. With the standard 240-volt Level 2 charger, which many people install in their homes, it’ll take just under 12 hours for a full charge. The EQS 450+ also comes standard with Mercedes me Charge, which gives you access to more than 60,000 public charging stations.
Another feature of the EQS 450+ is the ability to select your degree of regenerative braking. Regenerative braking is a feature that many electric vehicles offer — it automatically slows down your vehicle when you release your foot off the accelerator. When you do so, the energy generated from stopping is used to recharge the battery, giving you more range. In the EQS 450+, aggressive regenerative braking is optional. This feature slows down the vehicle faster, essentially allowing you to drive with just one pedal.
The EQS 450+ comes packed with interior comfort and entertainment features. Some of the features you can expect to find include:
- Power lumbar support for front-row seats.
- Heated and ventilated front seats.
- Power-adjustable second-row seats.
- Optional manually folding third-row seats.
- Optional seat heaters for both second and third rows.
- Ambient lighting.
- Mercedes’ MBUX multimedia system.
- A 12.8-inch OLED central touch screen.
- Augmented reality navigation.
- Onboard voice-activated assistant.
- Artificial intelligence-learning of driver preferences.
- Dual-zone climate control.
Finally, a host of the latest safety features are included as standard. These safety features include forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and active blind-spot assist. There’s also automatic high-beam headlights and Active Parking Assist, which helps drivers with both parallel and perpendicular parking.
This is just the start of all that the EQS 450+ has to offer. We highly recommend viewing this vehicle in person and taking it out for a test drive to experience everything it has to offer.
EQS 450 4MATIC® With All-Wheel Drive
The 2023 Mercedes-EQ EQS 450 4MATIC® is essentially the same as the 450+. The only difference is that instead of getting a rear-wheel drive system, you’ll get a 4MATIC® all-wheel drive one. All-wheel drive is an excellent choice if you want a little more control over your vehicle on tougher terrain. For example, if you plan on taking your vehicle off-road, or if you want to be prepared for slippery roads the next time it snows, you may prefer an SUV with all-wheel drive.
Choosing to get the EQS with all-wheel drive will impact two other aspects of this SUV. First, you can expect the battery range to drop a little, from around 300 miles to about 285. The other change is the price, with the all-wheel drive trim level costing a little more than the standard 450+ trim level.
EQS 580 4MATIC® With All-Wheel Drive
The 2023 Mercedes-EQ EQS 580 4MATIC® is the next step up from the 450+. This model not only adds in all-wheel drive, much like the 450 4MATIC®, but also comes with some additional upgrades. For starters, the 580 comes with an auxiliary motor, which boosts the horsepower to 536 and the torque to 633 lb-ft. As with the 450, the range on a single battery charge is around 285 miles.
Another big change in the 580 model is the inclusion of an intelligent Off-Road driving mode. When you switch into this driving mode, the Mercedes-EQ EQS automatically adjusts its ride height and shifts torque to the wheels that will provide the best traction. Finally, the 580 upgrades some of the interior features, such as the new MBUX hyper screen.
Which EQS Trim Level Is Right for You?
For most drivers, the base 450+ is a great option. This is because it already comes with so many amazing features and luxuries that you likely won’t be disappointed with your choice. However, there are some scenarios where you may want to consider either the 450 4MATIC® or the 580.
For example, you may want an SUV that you can take off-road. In this case, the Off-Road driving mode of the 580 or the inclusion of all-wheel drive in the 480 may be preferable to you. You might also like the added horsepower and torque that comes with the 580, which will help you in more difficult driving conditions.
