Here’s What We Know About the Range of the New 2023 EQS

As we inch closer to an eco-friendlier future, the automotive industry is shifting toward electric vehicles (EVs). Leading the charge is Mercedes-Benz with its new EQS, which will be released in 2023. The EQS is the first all-electric vehicle in the luxury class, setting the bar high for what we can expect from EVs in the future. With its combination of elegance and cutting-edge technology, the EQS is sure to turn heads and make a statement on the road.

But what about the nitty-gritty details? Here’s everything you need to know about the new 2023 EQS, including its mileage, range, and where and how you can charge it.

New EQS Versions to Look For

The luxurious EQS sedan has two trims: the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580. Each version has different features and specifications. Here is a breakdown of the key differences between the two:

• EQS 450+: Starting at $104,350 MSRP, the EQS 450+ is the more affordable option. As you’d expect, this beauty is equipped with standard features, such as 20-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, and a full suite of driver-assistance aids. Standard features also include a 12.8-inch OLED touch screen, air suspension, Mercedes-Benz PRESAFE® collision anticipation system, navigation, and a Burmester surround sound system, to name a few.
• EQS 580: If you’re looking to splurge, the EQS 580 has a starting MSRP of $125,900. For this entry point, you’ll get a few upgrades over the EQS 450+. These include three displays blended behind a curved glass surface, which adds up to a 56-inch display as standard, rapid heating and cooled front seats with massage functions, and four-zone climate control. Other upgrades include a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, the MBUX Hyperscreen, the Mercedes-Benz driver interface system that can understand spoken word commands, 21-inch wheels, wood interior trim, and more.

All-Electric Motor, Performance, and Transmission

The EQS 450+ has a permanently synchronous electric motor (PSM) mated to a direct-drive transmission. The motor can turn out 329 horsepower and 419 lb-ft in rapid response torque. The EQS 580 uses a different motor altogether. It’s a dual front, rear-axle PSM mated to an electric version of 4MATIC® all-wheel drive. The EQS 580 has a power output of 516 horsepower and 631 lb-ft, thanks to its more potent electric powertrain.

AIRMATIC® air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+ is standard. It utilizes anti-roll bars on both axles that decouple in Comfort mode to remain flat when rounding a corner. Automatic lowering is useful when cruising on the highway. The EQS will lower itself automatically at 75 mph to reduce drag and improve handling. Alternatively, you can raise the vehicle by an inch for better ground clearance. The EQS is also the first Mercedes-EQ to offer rear-axle steering, which can turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees. This improves agility at low speeds and stability when driving at high speeds.

So, what does all this mean for performance? The EQS 580 can go from 0-60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. And with a top speed of 130 mph, the EQS is no slouch when it comes to velocity. On the flip side, the EQS 450+ is no slouch either, with a 0-60 mph time of just 5.9 seconds. Not too bad for an EV.

Battery Specifications, Range and Charging Times

The EQS 450+ gets its juice from a lithium-ion 107.8-kWh battery pack with an EPA-estimated range of 350 miles. The EQS 580 uses a similar 107.8-kWh battery that gives it an EPA-estimated range of 340 miles, slightly less than the EQS 450+, due to its heavier weight.

You can charge both versions of the EQS with a 240-volt Level-II charger or a high-speed public DC fast charger. The EQS can be fully charged in under 11 hours with a Level-II charger. But if you’re in a hurry, the EQS can be charged up to 80% in under 40 minutes using a high-speed public DC fast charger.

2023 EQS Real-World MPGe

Of course, since the EQS is an all-electric vehicle, it doesn’t use any gas. That’s a good thing because gas is a finite resource that our planet will eventually run out of. EVs like the EQS are the future wave, and they’re only going to become more prevalent as time goes on. So, if you’re looking to do your part for the environment, the EQS is a great choice.

As for MPGe, the EQS 450+ gets an EPA-estimated 97 MPGe in the city and 97 MPGe on the highway. The EQS 580 gets a slightly less EPA-estimated 92 MPGe in the city but makes up for it on the highway with an estimated 99 MPGe. In the real world, these figures will vary depending on several factors, like how you drive, the weather, etc. But overall, you can expect the 2023 EQS to be very efficient.

When and Where to Charge Your All-Electric Vehicle

As mentioned, you can charge the EQS using either a Level-II charger or a high-speed public DC fast charger. If you have a Level-II charger at home, you can charge your EQS overnight and have it ready in the morning. If you don’t have a Level-II charger, the EQS’ industry-advancing charging ecosystem offers nearly 60,000 public charge points nationwide. So, at home or on the go, there’s always a place to charge your EQS.
